The Latch Hook Covered Bridge project as of October 27, 2025

Yes, I’m still plowing away on this custom-made latch hook covered bridge project.

Background for those who are new to my blog.

In October 2024, I took a photo of the Middle Covered Bridge in Woodstock, Vermont, just at the peak of foliage season. And I thought to myself, that would make an incredible latched hook rug that I could enter in Competition Season 2025.

Well … I kinda goofed in the production. I actually made the specs TOO LARGE for one canvas, and eventually had to combine three canvases into one big panel.

Or, in other words … this.

You see those two white opaque vertical columns? That’s the overlay of two canvases, all stitched together with white thread. But that white thread is only marginally strong, and a couple of good yanks on the canvas will pop those stitches like Dolly Parton fitting into Paris Hilton’s bodice.

No, I have to reinforce those stitches before anything else happens.

And by “reinforce,” it means I must go all the way up one side of the overlap, locking it in with yarn strands. Once those are locked in, then I can immediately seal the back so that the yarn won’t move – and, by extension, the canvas won’t split apart.

And after last night … including hooking while the Jets actually won a football game (shocker) and the Steelers got pummeled by the Green Bay Packers (at least Chris Boswell earned 20 points for my fantasy football team), the right seam is now sealed and tight.

And for added security, I also worked on the base rows at the bottom of the canvas.

Here’s where we’re at now.

You can now clearly see the bridge’s pedestrian overhang that protects the sidewalk. And we’re almost complete on the shadow that spans the entrance.

This will work.

I also checked my square count. 68 large squares, 100 little squares in each big square …

That equals 6,800 pulls.

We’re getting there, folks.

Man, this will look totally swank when it’s finished.

Let’s make this happen.
